LAS VEGAS ROYALS TO SIGN EX-ARSENAL SUPERSTAR BUKAYO SAKA
The Las Vegas Royals have announced the signing of England-native and former Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka.
The 21-year old prodigy had 11 goals and 7 assists in 36 starts with Arsenal in the 2021-22 Premiere League season, and has been named Arsenal’s player of the season in each of the last two seasons. As for his international career, Saka has 3 goals in just 3 starts so far in his first World Cup appearance with the English national team.
The Royals’ signing of Saka in the peak of his career could signal a shift in global sentiment surrounding the MLS. When asked about why he decided to leave his home country to play in the states, Saka had this to say:
“I love what they’re building here. I spoke with [Gerard Pique] on the phone a few weeks ago and the passion in his voice was something I felt I had lost over the last few seasons. I wanted to rekindle my love for the game and I knew this was the place to do it.”
The feeling is mutual for Royals manager Gerard Pique, who expressed his excitement for the signing in a press conference on Sunday.
“Saka is going to be the heart of this squad- I can already feel it. He’s just a magnet. He’s like a ball of light and energy and you can feel how infectious it is when he steps in a room. When his flight landed in Vegas, I already knew he was here before he texted me. I could just feel his presence.”
Royals fans will have to wait until Saturday, February 25th, 2023 to see Saka take the field in the season opener against LAFC in Allegiant Stadium. Tickets will go on sale on December 15th at 8PM Pacific Time on the Las Vegas Royals website, and the game will be televised on Apple TV.
